[ It's been a couple of hours since Lapis and Jinwoo went out on their date, and with some recent developments they now have very important news to share with Husk.
Lapis' voice comes out in a clearly giddy and excited rush once the call connects, still overjoyed over getting engaged and needing to share this with her family right now. It's rare Lapis gets this excited, let alone shows it, but of course this is an exception. ]
Dad! Dad, dad, look - !
[ It takes some careful light placement considering the time of night, but what follows is a picture of two hands - Lapis and Jinwoo - each one now wearing a ring on their ring finger which definitely weren't there earlier. ]
[Oh god, she sounds so excited. The same sort of tone he'd expect from her if she brought a puppy home and asked him if she could pretty please keep it. And as he squints at the image, he realises that estimation isn't super far off.
He's going to let that sink in for a moment. He likes Jinwoo, in all honesty. He's proven himself to be a solid, good decent guy. Kind of a nerdy loser, to be sure, but he treats his daughter right and makes her happy, and that's ultimately what happens. He's been expecting this a while, really. This just feels like dotting the i's and crossing the t's. An inevitability.
But this is Husk, so he's still gonna be a snarky asshole about it.]
I dunno. Did you both get pedicures? They do that at the mall, y'know.
[ His tone suggests that he doesn't, at all, think this is about a pedicure. ]
[ maybe jinwoo was a little like a stray puppy, but listen, at least he had all of his shots and didn't have mange, right?
But much like a stray dog, Jinwoo doesn't have much in the way of braincells either. So he sort of stalls when Husk mentions a pedicure--and for an actual moment, he pauses. ]
She doesn't get her nails done at the mall. I think she'd sooner perish. [ --wait no, hold on, no, he can't be serious. This was husk, right? Jinwoo shakes his head and covers his face with the same hand the new ring is on. ]
--That is. Neither here nor there. There's like a procedure with this sort of thing, I know, but. I thought it might be a little old fashioned to ask permission to ask her but.
The fact that you don't seem mad feels like a good sign.
[ his voice is definitely getting slowly more quiet. ]
[ Lapis very much likes this head-empty, no braincell stray she's brought back and now she would like to keep him!!
And her giddiness doesn't fade in the slightest in the face of Husk's snark; only chuckling in response as her tone turns a little more playful. ]
He's right, I'm way better than the people at the mall. Though if you were interested in pedicures, Dad, you should've told me.
[ There's a glance over at Jinwoo as he starts to get quieter, giggling softly again as she leans closer to nudge a shoulder against his. Sorry Jinwoo this is what you have chosen to be your family now. ]
He wouldn't get mad, he does actually like you. He just sucks at showing it.
[ Just casually calling out her father it's fine. ]
I was expecting him to say "I told you so", but I expect that's coming next.
[ He is not the worst stray that Lapis could have brought home, it's very true! He watches Jinwoo's distress with open amusement. This is a great time! He snorts slightly. ]
Pass, I don't want some weirdo touching my claw fingers thanks.
[Why ARE his fingers claws? He tries not to think about it. At Jinwoo's quiet little admission, he rolls his eyes. ]
Damn right, you don't need to ask my permission. She's a big girl, she can make that decision by herself.
[His ears pin back as he's called out, pointedly ignoring this extremely true fact his daughter has just uttered. Instead he grins, leaning forward. ]
