[One good thing about living with Lapis again is that Husk doesn't have to do much work to go find his daughter these days. So at some point of the morning of her birthday- before she heads out on her trip with Jinwoo, he'll be seeking her out. There's a usually shoddily-wrapped gift in his hands as he does so.]
[ Lapis perks up from where she was double checking some things for the trip, immediately flashing a smile towards her dad. And that smile brightens even more at his words - considering what was happening around her birthday last year, it's nice to be able to celebrate without certain things looming over their head. ]
Oh! Thank you, dad. Let's see... [ She's going to take that gift like it's the most precious thing, examining it curiously before she peels back the paper. ]
[Last year was a god-awful time. Now a year on they're free- they all have a future that's not tied to the goddamn Order. They can just enjoy the day and that means everything. Husk rolls back on his heels a little, grumbling softly in that way he does when things are getting overly sentimental even if he's feeling it himself. It's that old boomer energy again. ]
Just figured you should have a little somethin' is all. And seen as I got a little more money this time around [because he's spending less on alcohol and gambling] I figured I could get somethin' a little nicer this year.
[When she opens the parcel, she will find a necklace - a pale blue glow emanating from it - some magic from Undertown, clearly. The heart has an inscription on the back- Lapis, you mean the world to me, love Dad. Husk clears his throat, ruffling his wings uncomfortably.]
[ Lapis watches as Husk grumbles and rocks back on his feet, her smile brightening just that little bit more. It's nice, being able to celebrate things like this without another threat looming over their heads and so she lets herself take her time to open up the gift and admire it.
Surprise flickers across her expression as she holds the necklace delicately, handling it carefully and watching as it glows before taking a look at the back of it. Her breath catches for a moment as she reads the inscription, taking in the words before her smile returns - brighter than before as she practically beams over at Husk. ]
Oh, dad... It's beautiful. [ Sorry Husk it's time to get sentimental - her arms quick to wrap around him in a warm hug, squeezing him tightly. ]
[Husk might give a bit of annoyed huff, but he does return the hug, pulling her tight into hims arms. She clearly liked it, and that gives a swell of happiness in his chest. Good. She's had a shitty time of it lately, he wants her to be happy.]
You're welcome. Probably glow like the top of the Sears tower when you go out at night, but 'least we'll always be able to find you, huh?
[ Husk's words prompt a quiet chuckle, and she lets the hug linger for a little longer before she pulls back. Just enough so that she can admire the necklace again, not able to stop herself from smiling as she looks at it. While it is beautiful, it's the inscription that has her grinning all over again. ]
That's true, it will be impossible to miss me when I'm wearing this. And luckily I'll be wearing it all the time.
[ Because why wouldn't she, especially since it's a gift from her dad. ]
[It's good to see her smile. It's really good to see her smile. Husk can't remove all the bad in her life, he sure as shit can't remove all the bad in her past, but if he can bring her even a moment of joy in all of this? Well, then he's done his job properly.
He smiles himself at the comment. ]
So what you're saying is you're willingly makin' yourself a beacon all the time.
